Nearly two years ago I got to perform with an improv group in Istanbul. We were spending one night in Istanbul, and it all just seemed to work out that we got to perform with them.

Last weekend I got the second chance to do so, but on my home turf. Istanbulimpro was in Chicago for the Chicago Improv Festival and I got to play with them.

It was so great to see them again. It is amazing how much of a bond we made over one night in Istanbul. It felt like we hadn’t seen each other in just a few days.

Next time I’ll see them in Istanbul. It’s only fair, right?

In the summer of 2009 I was lucky enough to be in the very right place (Istanbul as a stop on NCL cruises with Second City) at the very right time (with Mary Scruggs who knew Istanbulimpro). Mary wanted us to see them perform and we had one overnight stay in which to do it. It went from “let’s meet them” to “let’s see them do a show” to “they want us to perform with them” in a matter of emails. My favorite moment was when Koray pimped me into singing about swearing.

Thursday 4/28/11 Chaos Theory will be doing a CIF performance at The Playground.

Chaos Theory is the Saturday night Harold team at iO Chicago. Created by Del Close and Charna Halpern, The Harold begins with an audience suggestion. A team of improvisers fully explore the suggestion through scenes and games, creating disparate stories, characters and themes that eventually weave together seamlessly, like the instruments of a jazz band.

Performing in the 10:30 time slot with us will be Eux Compagnie d’Improvisation from Paris, France!

The festival officially kicks off TODAY! Get out there and see some improv!
